Lake Superior Art Association in the Permanent Collection at the DeVos Art Museum

The lake Superior Art Association’s April meeting was a special showing of and reception for the exhibition Celebrating Legacy: Lake Superior Art Association in the Permanent Collection at the DeVos Art Museum on the NMU campus.
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of Lake Superior Art Association (LSAA), the longest-running arts organization in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In celebration of this legacy, this exhibition brings together past and present LSAA members.


Museum Director, Emily Lanctot, and Collection Curator, Sammie Hardewig, prepared a spectacular exhibition of art by Lake Superior Art Association members that is stored in the museum’s permanent collection. Several legacy artists attended and were pleased to see their work included.
“We are so grateful to live in a community that values the arts!” stated Emily Lanctot. ” And we feel lucky that the seeds planted seventy-five years ago have grown into the creative legacy that is LSAA.”



Among those artists were John Hubbard, Diane Kordich, JoAnne Shelby, and Jack Deo. Works included paintings, ceramics, and metalwork.
