LSAA President Meets with High School Art Award Winner

LSAA Officers met with the Winner of the High School Art Award. Angeline DeVries and President Lynn Buckland-Brown Marquette County Area High School Artists have their work on display at the Deo Gallery. There is no shortage of talent in the Upper Peninsula, and it’s obvious that this talent has been well nurtured and developed by families and local educators. At the Deo: John Hubbard “Color and Light: North Country Images”

/ Reception on April 11th, from 6-8 pm Marquette Arts & Culture Center 217 North Front St., Marquette, MI Free and open to the public Artist's Statement I may be riding in a car or tramping through the woods on snowshoes, constantly scanning my surroundings for images that might produce an exciting painting.  Usually I go hiking for periods of thirty minutes to three hours and shoot from 30-200 images, which I later review as to which hold painting potential.  I crop and adjust the image on my computer and then work from a monitor to create the final painting. …

Anita Meyland, First Lady of the Arts Event

On March 5th, the Lake Superior Art Association presented a celebration of the History of Arts and Culture in Marquette. Jack Deo and Ann Hilton Fisher shared a lot of fun and interesting stories about Anita Meyland, who came to Marquette as a young bride 100 years ago and began organizing many events and founded Art On the Rocks. February 20th: Judy Parlato: Fiber Arts “Lady in Gold”

On February 20th, there was a beautiful presentation by Judy Parlato, a fiber artist from Gwinn, MI. Judy demonstrated the process she uses in creating art quilts. "I was delighted" Judy told me, "to be asked to present my 'Lady' and explain my artistic process starting with inspiration and culminating with binding the quilted art quilt." Judy accepts every design challenge presented her usually stretching the boundaries of traditional quilt design.
