The Lake Superior Art Association is presenting a workshop featuring notable artist Kathleeen Conover. She will be guiding artists of all skill levels and painting styles to integrate left-brain and right-brain thinking in their art. According to Kathleen, the best paintings aren’t totally planned and they aren’t totally intuitive. They are a marriage of intent, basic design skills, and freely expressing the artist’s personal interpretation of the world. This perfect marriage comes from the left-side of our brain (critical thinking, analyzing, planning) and the right-side (intuitive, expressive, feeling). When we engage both sides of our brain, we are creating from our head, our hands, and our heart, and are truly creating our best art.

To facilitate artistic application of left-side and right-side cognitive processes, Kathleen will present daily demonstrations, provide printed handouts, give individual attention, and encourage independent work time. She will clearly present compositional guidelines and self-critiquing techniques for successful painting development (left brain thinking). And, she will guide participants into the realm of their personal intuitive powers (right brain FUN!).

The four-day workshop takes place October 6-9, 2025 from 9:30-4:00 each day. Class size is limited to 12 and will be held in Studio 1 (downstairs) of the PWPL. Artists supply their own materials.

Class fee $350
