Art Adventures for Children: Latin America

Have fun creating artwork based on the art of Latin America! The key to Latin American art is the use of brilliant color and design to communicate cultural and spiritual ideas, and to tell stories of the past and present. Young artists ages 7-12 will enjoy using markers and paint to make personal masterpieces! This hands-on workshop is free and all supplies are provided! The workshop will be on Saturday, November 2, at 1:00 in the Peter White Public Library, Studio 1. Sponsored by the Lake Superior Art Association. Annual LSAA Members Exhibit

Judy Parlato's "Lady in Gold" won last year's Best in Show award Members of the Lake Superior Art Association will be displaying a diverse selection of artwork at the Annual LSAA Members Exhibit on November 4th through the 30th in the Deo Gallery of the Peter White Public Library. The exhibit, located down the west staircase, is open during library hours. The public is encouraged to drop in to see the exhibit and attend the reception scheduled for Thursday November 7 from 6-8 pm. LSAA Challenge Exhibit: Opposites

The Lake Superior Art Association's annual Challenge Art Exhibit is on display October 1 through 31 in the Deo Gallery of the Peter White Public Library. The theme of this exhibit is “Opposites,” which artists might interpret with colors, shapes, media, or subject matter.  The talent in the Marquette area does not disappoint with this diverse collection of opposing ideas and representations! LSAA Visual Arts Grant Presentation

LSAA Visual Arts Grant Awards to be Announced. Recipients of  LSAA Visual Arts Grants will be announced on January 21st preceding Adam Mowafy's Art Talk at 6:30 pm in the PWPL Studio 1. These grants provide an annual award pool of $5,000 for any persons, groups, or organizations, in Marquette county that need financial assistance to purchase art supplies. The 2024 Awardees will be announced, and awardees will give a quick recap of their projects. Lake Superior Art Association Inc. has $5,000 funding for artist supplies and/or projects for Marquette County residents or organizations.  Recipients may be featured in the LSAA Inc.…

LSAA Art Talk: An Evening with Artist John French

On October 15th, 35 fellow artists, friends, and art lovers joined local artist John French for an evening chat as he demonstrated his techniques for painting water, rocks, foliage, and the Lake Superior landscape. While John painted, he discussed the materials he prefers, and methods he's developed. He reflected on his sources of inspiration and love of the Lake Superior Region, touching on the geography and history of the region. Seven Grandfather Teachings unveiling

Presented by City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture at Ellwood A. Mattson Lower Harbor Park, Marquette MI Seven Grandfather Teachings Sculpture Unveiling Event The City of Marquette announces the installation of the 'Seven Grandfather Teachings' sculpture by artist Jason Quigno to occur Friday, September 6th.  The sculpture has been commissioned by the City of Marquette Public Art Commission. Quigno, an Anishinaabe contemporary stone sculptor and tribal citizen of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, has carved seven locally quarried boulders to represent each of the Seven Grandfathers and the cultural wisdom they embody.
