LSAA Visual Arts Grant Policy and Form

Lake Superior Art Association Inc. has $5,000 funding for artist supplies and/or projects for Marquette County residents or organizations.  Request forms can be found below, and must be submitted by November 15th, 2024. LSAA Art Talk: An Evening with Artist John French

On October 15th, 35 fellow artists, friends, and art lovers joined local artist John French for an evening chat as he demonstrated his techniques for painting water, rocks, foliage, and the Lake Superior landscape. While John painted, he discussed the materials he prefers, and methods he's developed. He reflected on his sources of inspiration and love of the Lake Superior Region, touching on the geography and history of the region. Seven Grandfather Teachings unveiling

Presented by City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture at Ellwood A. Mattson Lower Harbor Park, Marquette MI Seven Grandfather Teachings Sculpture Unveiling Event The City of Marquette announces the installation of the 'Seven Grandfather Teachings' sculpture by artist Jason Quigno to occur Friday, September 6th.  The sculpture has been commissioned by the City of Marquette Public Art Commission. Quigno, an Anishinaabe contemporary stone sculptor and tribal citizen of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, has carved seven locally quarried boulders to represent each of the Seven Grandfathers and the cultural wisdom they embody. The 2024 Fresh Coast Plein Air Art Festival was a hit!

The LSAA 2024 Plein Air Festival which started on Friday, June 28th with the Dusk to Dark competition and continued on Saturday the 29th with an all day competition, followed by a reception and awards ceremony. The festival concluded on Sunday with an Afterglow get together at Provisions MQT for Coffee and Gelato. Fun was had by all who participated and enjoyed by all who viewed the fabulous pieces created by the artists. Congratulations to all of the participants and award winners! Becoming Made; How an Artist Makes… and is Made

As part of Art Week, the Lake Superior Art Association is showing the film "Becoming Made" at the Peter White Library in the Shiras room at 3:00 Monday June 24. Becoming Made: a rare look at how an artist makes and is made by her environment and her art Mary Brodbeck's film shows in elegant detail the process of creating Mokuhanga woodblock prints in the traditional Japanese method.
