The Lake Superior Art Association is looking for a new logo! Yes, it is time for an updated logo for LSAA, Inc., more popularly known as The Lake Superior Art Association. The logo contest is open to all artists, with a $500 prize to the artist who creates the logo selected to represent the organization. LSAA is seeking a professional, creative, stylized logo that references our organization's mission to promote Marquette county artists and visual arts, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and photography. We appreciate all our Day of Giving donors who help provide more resources and opportunities for Lake Superior Art Association to fulfill its mission. “Giving Tuesday” is a global day of giving and was created in 2012. It is a movement meant to energize our supporters and promote generosity. When Is Giving Tuesday? This year it's on December 3rd. The date is determined by the Tuesday following Thanksgiving each year. Because Thanksgiving is the fourth week of November, Giving Tuesday either falls on the last Tuesday of November or the first Tuesday of December. JoAnn Shelby and Michele Tuccini lent their artistic talents to hanging the exhibit. The Thursday evening reception was full of artists, friends, family, and art lovers. Have fun creating artwork based on the art of Latin America! The key to Latin American art is the use of brilliant color and design to communicate cultural and spiritual ideas, and to tell stories of the past and present. Young artists ages 7-12 will enjoy using markers and paint to make personal masterpieces! This hands-on workshop is free and all supplies are provided! The workshop will be on Saturday, November 2, at 1:00 in the Peter White Public Library, Studio 1. Sponsored by the Lake Superior Art Association. Judy Parlato's "Lady in Gold" won last year's Best in Show award Members of the Lake Superior Art Association will be displaying a diverse selection of artwork at the Annual LSAA Members Exhibit on November 4th through the 30th in the Deo Gallery of the Peter White Public Library. The exhibit, located down the west staircase, is open during library hours. The Lake Superior Art Association's annual Challenge Art Exhibit is on display October 1 through 31 in the Deo Gallery of the Peter White Public Library. The theme of this exhibit is “Opposites,” which artists might interpret with colors, shapes, media, or subject matter. The talent in the Marquette area does not disappoint with this diverse collection of opposing ideas and representations! There is a public reception on October 10, 6 - 8 pm. The 2024 LSAA Member Exhibit will be presented from November 4th to November 30th at the Deo Gallery, Arts & Culture Center located in lower level of the Peter White Public Library. Members may enter only one piece, 2D, 3D, any medium. Show Reception on Thursday, November 7th, 6-8 pm ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: LSAA dues must be paid. Members may enter one piece. On October 15th, 35 fellow artists, friends, and art lovers joined local artist John French for an evening chat as he demonstrated his techniques for painting water, rocks, foliage, and the Lake Superior landscape. While John painted, he discussed the materials he prefers, and methods he's developed. He reflected on his sources of inspiration and love of the Lake Superior Region, touching on the geography and history of the region.
