Open Position: Art on the Rocks Director

The LSAA Executive Board is sorry to say that this is the last year Tristan Luoma will be our Director for Art on the Rocks.

Tristan has done a stellar job for many years and we certainly appreciate his leadership and dedication to this flagship LSAA event.

Thankfully, Tristan will be sticking with us for the 2025 event and will be able to mentor the next director. But we will need to get the next director selected soon!

Art on the Rocks Festival Director

Art on the Rocks is a two-day event held during the last week of July each year in Marquette, in which 100+ artists display their work for sale in an outdoor venue. The event is presented by LSAA, Inc (Lake Superior Art Association), a 501(c)(3) organization. Art on the Rocks attracts artists primarily from the upper midwest. The event is attended by thousands of local art lovers and visitors. The Lake Superior Art Association is seeking a Director for this event. This is a part-time, paid position.

As Director of Art on the Rocks, you will have the opportunity to work with notable artists, interact with community members, and make a rewarding contribution to promoting art.

The Director of Art on the Rocks responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The successful candidate must have an appreciation and understanding of the arts and the culture surrounding the arts here in Marquette and surrounding area.

You must be organized and able to delegate and work with the many volunteer groups required to complete the multitude of tasks required to put on an annual event of this magnitude. Fundraising is an extremely important component required for continued success of this event as well.

We are looking for an individual who is organized, has great communication skills and has an understanding of financial documents. You must be able to create and document status reports and financial reports on a monthly basis to the LSAA Board of Directors. Additionally, an annual financial picture/forecast is required. You should be able to use GoogleDocs and QuickBooks.

Planning begins several months before the event, and wrap-up typically continues through October. You must be available on-site the entire three days of the event held on the last full weekend of July of each year.
