On March 5th, the Lake Superior Art Association presented a celebration of the History of Arts and Culture in Marquette.
Jack Deo and Ann Hilton Fisher shared a lot of fun and interesting stories about Anita Meyland, who came to Marquette as a young bride 100 years ago and began organizing many events and founded Art On the Rocks.
Anita Meyland was a prominent advocate of the arts during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. In 1950 she organized Marquette’s first Art on the Rocks event. She was a contributing member of local art and music organizations and taught classes in painting, pottery, scrimshaw, quilting, spinning, pewter, beading, candle-making, woodcarving, and even ironwork!
Thank you to all the LSAA committee and Board members for your incredible organization and creativity producing this celebration.
Thank you Sally Wilson and crew at NMU for providing a great venue and refreshments and Allie for providing the tech help!
