On October 15th, 35 fellow artists, friends, and art lovers joined local artist John French for an evening chat as he demonstrated his techniques for painting water, rocks, foliage, and the Lake Superior landscape. While John painted, he discussed the materials he prefers, and methods he’s developed. He reflected on his sources of inspiration and love of the Lake Superior Region, touching on the geography and history of the region. John impressed the audience with his shortcut for painting a rock beach.
John would like to thank the LSAA, its board members, and especially the wonderful people who turned out for this art talk!
About the Artist
John French’s use of bold color and strong composition convey the intense beauty the artist sees in the world around him. His paintings invite the viewer to ponder a more peaceful and quiet part of the world, away from the bustle and worry of everyday life.
John was born in the 1970 in Santa Fe, NM. In 1980, the U.S. Air Force moved his family to Rimini Italy. After four years of exposure to Italian culture, food, history, and ART, the family moved to KI Sawyer AFB in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
John loved to get out and experience the wilderness around him. Paintings of thick woods and the Great Lakes are born from exploring the region.
